Pekka Pohjola remembered by fellow musicians at a memorial concert at Tavastia club, Helsinki

The great musician and composer Pekka Pohjola, who passed away on November 27th 2008, is being remembered by his fellow musicians in a memorial concert at Tavastia club, Helsinki, on Wednesday, January 14th, 2009. Musicians from Pekka’s two regular bands since 1992 will perform classic Pohjola tunes.
The electric band (1992-2002) that toured a.o. the USA and three times in Japan, features Seppo Kantonen (keyboards), Markku Kanerva (guitar) and Anssi Nykänen and stepping in on electric bass is the young and very talented Lauri Porra.
The unplugged band “Vähällä sähköllä” (2002-2004) featuring Verneri Pohjola (trumpet), Ilmari Pohjola (trombone), Seppo Kantonen (piano), Veli Kujala (accordion) and Mika Kallio (drums) will play with three bass players taking turns: Timo Hirvonen, Ville Herrala and Heikki Laine.
In addition, two members of group XL, who recorded for Pohjola label and with whom Pekka did some gigs as a guest bass player, Arttu Takalo (midi vibes) and Jarmo Saari (guitar), will perform as a duo and also together with Pohjola’s electric band.
